StarFlight decision intelligence located on the aircraft emulates human response and reaction to immediate threats. It produces actionable decision output commanding collision avoidance, flight termination system deployment, and other time-critical actions. The “smart” aircraft passes state and sensor telemetry to RealFlight on the ground via the GCS C2 link. StarFlight monitors the situational awareness flow for any condition that might require immediate action.
Distribution of the safety and operational optimization decision budget reduces the burden on RealFlight to accomplish all tasks within the ground station and networked ground station environment. Size, weight, and power constraints (SWAP) onboard the vehicle necessitate many of the longer duration decisions to be determined off-board.
- ○ Relieve bandwidth pressure
- ○ Shorten tactical response time
- ○ Alleviate dependence on the RF tether
